NEPAL ADVENTURE 2007
Warming up for the freeze in Nepal with a week of sailing from Malaysia to Thailand, and fishing of course! Thanks Simone & Paul!
Jiri to Gokyo Trek
The beginning of the trek from Jiri up to Gokyo in the Khumbu region of Nepal. This is part of the old Everest expedition route. Clyde getting into some meditation beside some stupas. The radar dish is actually a solar cooker - I want one!

On top of the Lamjura La. At over 3500m this pass is nearly as high as Aoraki in New Zealand, and not even cold yet

A first dusting of snow at Machermo set the scene for some awesome pictures up the Gokyo valley.
The head of the Gokyo valley, 5000m and Sagarmatha (Everest) in the background. Then better views when it actually looks like the highest mountain during the assault on the highest point at 5345m over the Reno La.

Clyde carbo-loading on the new favourite - Sherpa Stew!

Inside the powerhouse of the hydro scheme at Thame. It has a capacity of about 600kW, and powers the major villages around Namche Bazaar. This is doing much for slowing the rate of deforestation in an area that sees thousands of tourists a month in peak season.

Clyde in front of the mighty Kangtenga. The penstock for another micro-hydro system, there are still trees around the village!
After the hiking expedition I arranged to do a brief bit of volunteer work. I was working on planning a new community facility and a primary school renovation in a village called Gerhku. The 'design committee', a rare school photo and some of my surveying assistants!
On New Years Eve Clyde and I hit the town with our new friends Phurbu and Umesh and Clyde grabbing a last bit of karma at Kopan
