2009
So here it is at last, 2009 in pictorial summary! Pretty crazy year seeing as I didn't think that I'd get to travel. Most favourite images are in the gallery as usual.

End of Winter Ball

Celebrating the beginning of spring with the Gula Huset 'End of Winter' Ball, with a live jazz band in my room..

Easter Cycling and Norway

Easter - had the bike and the tent finally back out of the cuboard and onto the beach... and then made a trip to Bergen in Norway to see the fjords and winter again.

Oslo, the impressive new opera house, and back to the books over a sunny coffee.

With spring finally back in Lund, we managed to find a gas bbq for making coffee amongst the flowers!

Smalands cycling

A long weekend of cycling in the province above Skane, to get some authentic Swedish experience - little red houses, green beech trees and camping by lakes. Plus we met up with Mariana and Roberto for the second part.
Ghana

It had been a long while since we had a family holiday, so we chose Ghana for the IAIA conference as dad took up the presidency for a year. Also visited Frederick a past LUMES student to see some of the old slaving forts along the coast.

Kenya
The summer was spent around Kisumu on the shores of Lake Victoria in southwest Kenya doing a Legal Empowerment of the Poor study for the sustainable enterprises project. The paper is under publications
This is a selection of the amazing people we met and the sustainable enterprises that they are developing. We were also helping Benson (centre below) with his smokeless kitchen project supported by LUCSUS.
The Kakamega Environmental Education Project (KEEP) proved a relaxing and inspiring place for both research and relaxation. This organisation is doing amazing work to preserve the last area of rainforest in Kenya.
We also took ourselves on safari in the amazing Masai Mara National Park for my birthday
Finally an opportunity for Clyde to meet some real lions!
Slovenia
Nina's family 'summer house' - a haven for R&R. I set an outdoor bathtub into the existing rocks. Nina has been working on mosaicing the bbq. Clyde got us to stop to visit Sonja and her 'little lion' in Austria on the way down!
Morocco
To round up a year where I wasn't expecting to travel much, a trip to southern Morocco for a conference and a brief bit of fieldwork looking at cooperatives there - see publications for the resulting paper.
Tafroute - amazing rock formations. See the lion?
Some classic Moroccan tea, spices, mosques and markets. Finishing up in beautiful Essaouira
Autumn - Winter in Sweden
KJ dropped back in to join us for a visit to Stockholm, before Nina and I took off for a short road trip.

The decent from colourful autumn to dark, cold winter left us jumping at any sight of the sun.
